Review: Prodigy by Marie Lu

Prodigy (Legend #2)

Published: January 29, 2013

June and Day arrive in Vegas just as the unthinkable happens: the Elector Primo dies, and his son Anden takes his place. With the Republic edging closer to chaos, the two join a group of Patriot rebels eager to help Day rescue his brother and offer passage to the Colonies. They have only one request—June and Day must assassinate the new Elector.

It’s their chance to change the nation, to give voice to a people silenced for too long.

But as June realizes this Elector is nothing like his father, she’s haunted by the choice ahead. What if Anden is a new beginning? What if revolution must be more than loss and vengeance, anger and blood—what if the Patriots are wrong?

In this highly-anticipated sequel, Lu delivers a breathtaking thriller with high stakes and cinematic action.

Could I possibly love this book even more than I do now? I swear Prodigy can blind me just because of its absolute brilliance. With the coolest and hands down one of my favourite characters ever who easily claimed the top of my list, June and Day will lead us to yet another adrenaline-pumping, mind-boggling and action packed rebellion with society, trust, and love.

Born and raised on two different sides of the world, June and Day – now allies – with The Republic hot on their heels are headed to another enemy territory. Once proven of their allegiance to The Patriots, each has a duty to accomplish that threatens their almost hanging-by-a-thread relationship. Doubts arise especially to Day with outside parties willing to fuel this moment of weakness into luring him completely on their side. But Day is smart and is not easily swayed by their words. I can’t blame him of his mixed feelings but he trusts June and that’s enough to have me audibly sighing with relief every time. June impressed me more than before. She’s already proven her intelligence, her bravery and her loyalty not to The Republic or The Patriots but to her own credence on the people by her side.

I can’t get over my breathlessness at how clever the plot is. The whole story was thoroughly placed with no visible errors I can find. Excellent pacing with surprises up its sleeves you’d never thought of before. The suspense is there but introduced in a way you’d never have enough time to dwell on too much that it would ruin its intended effect.

Prodigy had me gripping the edges of my seat – literally. I may have been reluctant to pick this up right after I got my copy knowing how much I’ve anticipated this ever since I finished Legend that I would be done with it sooner than I would like. Too soon. And before I know it, I am heartbroken and agonizing over the fact that I have to wait for yet another— ano— .. Gah! I can’t even talk about that ending. THIS GOING TO BE A LOOONG WAIT!

Words!

“You were born to shake the Republic. June, there is no one better.”
