Me and My Bookshelf (16): Last of my September Book Haul

This is where I feature the books I received, bought, gifted or won that are newly added in my physical shelf, which means no e-books and the like. It is usually posted on Saturdays.

I attended DevFest Bacolod 2013 yesterday and I got home pretty late so I wasn't able to post my last book haul for this month. Also, power's acting crappy since Thursday night; my laptop and both my phone's actually drained by Friday morning so I bought them to school to charge. It's good now though so here I am!

Me and My Bookshelf (15): Review Copies Edition

This is where I feature the books I received, bought, gifted or won that are newly added in my physical shelf, which means no e-books and the like. It is usually posted on Saturdays.

Here I am again with another September book haul. If you’ve probably noticed, this blog has been quiet lately. Aside from the busy part that is school, my laptop was also out of commission these past weeks and it’s kind of impossible to blog using any other computer, if you know what I mean. Between this book haul post and the previous one, I only managed to make one blog post (see HERE).

Me and My Bookshelf (14): National Book Store Cut Price Book Sale Edition

This is where I feature the books I received, bought, gifted or won that are newly added in my physical shelf, which means no e-books and the like. It is usually posted on Saturdays.

Yep. You got that right. Instead of doing a monthly haul post for September, I divided them into parts because if I don’t, you’re in for a super long post. We're not even halfway through the month but I already got 20 and you know how I am when it comes to book hauls. I ramble. A LOT.

Moving on, National Book Store had a cut price book sale of up to 70% off for 10 days. I had just realized that I did not buy any books last August and I intended to keep it that way for the few remaining days until the month was over. I don't know, I guess the world's mocking me because a couple of days after that I saw this book sale announcement on the store's FB page. You should understand, we RARELY get this kind of deal here in my place. A book obsessed person like me would be crazy to even think about passing this up. SO.. the day after I saw that poster, which was August 31st by the way, I gave in. Oh no, I didn't buy all of these in one day. I only bought 4 on my first trip.. and the rest I bought the day before the sale was over. It pains me to say this but it's probably a good thing I'm nowhere near the Manila International Book Fair right now. Or else. And because I love "bookstore hopping" so much, I bought these babies from 4 different branches of NBS here in our city. Mwahahaha! Anyway, here they are:

Quick. Cover your ears. My excitement's gonna explode in a second! No, actually, I've been giddy since I saw this yesterday. Dreams of Gods and Monsters. Dreams of Gods and Monsters. Oh, pardon me. I just love saying that beautiful title again and again. Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Days of Blood and Starlight. Dreams of Gods and Monsters. I've died and gone to heaven. But now I'm back to show you - that's if you haven't seen it yet - the cover of the final book in Laini Taylor's trilogy. (Days of Blood and Starlight - REVIEW)

Cover Changes + Book Cover Battle: The Fury Trilogy by Elizabeth Miles

My laptop is currently out of sight so I'm using my desktop computer at the moment. All my bloggy things are there and I haven't written any reviews recently anyway so I decided to just post something random and quick since I have a meeting in one hour. I came up with this.

Quick say of my take on cover changes. I don't mind them much, really. When it comes to matching my books, I base it on their size and edition so they don't appear uneven on my shelf. But sometimes the specific edition I'm looking for isn't available and honestly, it can't be avoided so I get over it pretty quickly. Nothing much I can do anyway.

I don't judge a book by it's cover but I do love beautiful covers. Umm, who doesn't? Sure, changing the cover in the middle of a series is a little annoying especially if the publishers are not making matching ones for the previous books. And being the obsessive book collector that I am, I sometimes can't help but feel this need to also own these books with their new covers or editions even though I already have an existing copy.

I wish myself good luck.

So yeah, annoying. They're trying to make me broke!!! :)
Anyway, since I love looking at beautiful covers so much and it seems like changing covers is currently a trend, I'm making this new meme where I find book covers that were changed and compare and talk about them with you. Sounds cool?

And the lucky book I picked for my first cover battle is: The Fury Trilogy by Elizabeth Miles

From Page to Film: The Book Thief

Honestly, I don't know anything about this book except that it's popular, a bestseller and that a lot of you guys loved it. I don't know. It just didn't occur to me to a least check it out so I really have no idea what the story is, the genre, etc. etc. But when I heard that The Book Thief movie trailer was out.. that, I immediately watched.

Me and My Bookshelf (13): July Book Haul

This is where I feature the books I received, bought, gifted or won that are newly added in my physical shelf, which means no e-books and the like. It is usually posted on Saturdays.

Quick recap of what happened yesterday the reason why I was only able to post this now. Instead of going directly home after I arrived back in the city, I decided to stop by the bookstore first to buy some books which turned out to be a lot. I was so winded after last week’s exam plus Friday night’s mini party (until 4AM!) with my classmates and Saturday’s club activity. It was a blast and I had a really great time even though I only slept for less than an hour (thank god all that drink I had did nothing to me). By the time I decided to go home, I can barely keep my eyes open. So instead of making my book haul post, I slept. For 14 hours, it seems.

Now here I am. Doing homework and projects already, like we didn’t just take our midterm exams last week. Anyway, I haven’t posted my book hauls these past two months and I figured I’ll just put them all into one post. But this month’s book buying is getting crazy and it’s only the first week. I don’t want to make it too long so I’m going to make separate posts according to when I bought or received the books. For now, here are the books I got last July. I did not request any for review because I know it’s going to be tough fitting it with my schedule so I just bought five.

It's Friday! Way to state the obvious, right?

Happy Friday! I'm happy aside from the fact that this Friday is different because we won't be having class tomorrow (yep, I have Saturday classes), also because midterm exams are over! I just got out from my last one and now that I'm done packing for some weekend getaway, I'm killing time by making this blog post before I meet my friends in a few minutes for dinner and an out of town trip.

It's feels sad and lonely looking at my blogger dashboard and seeing that I haven't posted anything since Monday the reason why I'm doing this even though it's a short one. I haven't written any reviews as of late so this post will be random.

Anyway, I'm off to some resort out of the city for our club's acquaintance party tomorrow. Me and some of my classmates are staying overnight to prepare the venue and have a little after-exam party on our own before we accommodate a hundred students the following day.

And that's it! Watch out for my MMB post tomorrow. Enjoy your weekend!

August Reads + Monthly Recap

Happy September 1st or 2nd! Depends on which timezone you belong - it's the latter for me. In four months, 2013 is gonna end. In four months, I WILL NO LONGER BE A TEENAGER. Let me take a moment to process that... Yep. In four months, I’ll be one year older but I bet it won’t feel like that. HA!

I know when it comes to books I always say how impatient I am for next year to come when my most anticipated will be published. But it’s really scary when I think about time and realize how fast it’s flying. Wasn’t it just a few months ago when we celebrated New Year? But no, 8 months have already passed and welcome to the 2013 countdown. Even school seems to breeze right through. I know it seems like a long day when I sit in my chair and listen to class for an hour, a long week when I think about upcoming quizzes and assignments, a long month when it comes to projects and extracurricular activities. But looking at the bigger picture, I actually already survived 3 months of my fourth year in college. And now it’s our midterm exams when it feels like it was just last week when we crammed for prelims.

Anyway, August has been busy. No surprise there. Thanks to what free time I got I was able to read 12 books this month. Most of them are ebooks since I don’t bring physical books to school (it won’t fit in my bag) and I spend 70% of the day out of our house.
