Pride and Prejudice and Zombies Movie

Earlier this year I read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Before everything else, let me say this: English isn't my first nor my second language. I am not very fluent and we didn't have Jane Austen and the like in our high school reading list. That said, Pride and Prejudice was really hard for me to get into and I struggled reading it at first but enjoyed it eventually. Still, the language barrier made me sad. I felt like I didn't get to experience the story in its fullness and that is just disheartening.

Whenever my high school batchmates, aka "the loquacious", get together there is the usual catching up and the talking over each other you can't follow what everyone is saying anymore as the discussion heats up until one or two or more would eventually look at each other, laugh, and say, "Holy crap, it's like high school once again." And the better part of the day will always, always be spent talking about practically all the TV series or movies ever made.

I finally saw the Fifty Shades movie and you know what? I ended up really enjoying it. Before I further discuss my feelings towards the movie I just want to say that I hated the book and had no intention of watching the film. It wasn't because I found the topic inappropriate or something like that. I always get into books with an open mind so, no. The main reason is I found the writing horrible and I've wanted to head kick the main character since page one.

It wasn't long after I read the book that I heard the news. I enjoyed the book so much so I was really excited to see it on screen. Until I read a very short description of the movie and I was pretty much like, "What?"

MOVIE REVIEW: The Maze Runner

Saturday morning I got a text from my friend asking me to watch The Maze Runner together with my high school buddies. Unfortunately, I already saw it the previous night because I couldn't wait when I REMEMBERED - at around 5pm! - that: "Wait, The Maze Runner is showing TODAY?" 

Yep, after the events of that week - and the weeks before that - I totally forgot. I was too excited to watch it that it didn't really matter if I haven't read the book yet which I told myself that I would before seeing the movie. I texted my sister immediately, waited for her classes to finish and dragged her to the mall. It took her so long that we had no choice but to watch the 9pm showing.

The Maze Runner is one of those books I know about because it's popular, but don't really plan to read. Until last year, when I heard that it's going to be a movie and Dylan O'Brien will play the main character. That's all I really know about the movie but it was enough to make me include the book in my TBR pile. And then a couple of weeks ago 20th Century Fox released the official movie trailer and everyone is buzzing about it.

Honestly, I don't know anything about this book except that it's popular, a bestseller and that a lot of you guys loved it. I don't know. It just didn't occur to me to a least check it out so I really have no idea what the story is, the genre, etc. etc. But when I heard that The Book Thief movie trailer was out.. that, I immediately watched.

From Page to Film: The Mortal Instruments - City of Bones

Confession time. When I read City of Bones 2 years ago I did not finish it *covers self*. Not really, but I did not entirely read the whole book. It's not because it was bad (okay, maybe a little) but halfway through I just got a little impatient and scanned the rest. That did not stop me from checking out Cassie Clare's other series The Infernal Devices. And that one I ABSOLUTELY LOVED.

Now for most of us, the book is almost always better than the movie. We tend to compare the two word by freaking word if it comes to that. We can't help it. I can't help it. And most of the time we end up disappointed especially if the movie was based from a beloved book. I didn't have any intention of re-reading City of Bones before watching the movie and basing on the fact that I partially read the book a long time ago, this rant/review is pretty much based on the movie alone. I can remember the characters of the book for the most part; the background of the story, vaguely; the story line of the first book and the exact flow, not so much.

First and foremost, the casting is AWESOME! 

From Page to Film: Catching Fire Trailer

Hello! Let me get this out first. Well, I haven't been blogging for a week now because of the usual reasons. Mostly school stuff. This past two weeks have been very exhausting to the point where I arrive home late at night and just dump myself on my bed and sleep like a log until morning comes when I have to get ready for school once again. I can't even remember not eating dinner until my mom mentions it to me the following day.

We had our club fair this week which meant a lot of activities to perform and preparations to do. It got us cramming since we just had our exams the previous week and we still have a few deadlines to meet and projects to hand over but it was still a successful event. We set up booths to showcase our clubs and ours is all about Computer Engineering. This part was kind of tricky since most of the projects we intended to display were used during the Science and Tech Fair in a different venue simultaneously. We still managed. One of the activities was the Mob Dance Competition. I haven't heard the news until this morning but we actually won. THAT was unexpected. The club fair ended yesterday and that was just one thing crossed out on our list of activities for the whole school year.

Uhh.. yeah. There's a tree inside the coliseum because this year's theme is all about the four elements. Do not fret. We didn't harm anything. LOL!

Hi everyone! It's a holiday so.. what are you guys up to today? You game for a movie? If you haven't watched Warm Bodies yet, well, you better. I know this post is pretty late - schedule's a little messed up but hey.. it's never too late to enjoy a nice day on the couch watching zombies eat brains! Kidding! Seriously, this movie is amazing. Who'd have thought zombies can be a lot of fun?

From Page to Film: Twilight Saga

Twilight, I should say, fell into the books-I-liked-movie-not-so-much category. I loved the series and I admit I was obsessed with it then. It's hard not to be swept away by all that madness especially since a movie was coming out with very promising casts. Not that I'm saying I hate it now. It's just that Twilight isn't the only book I have ever read and there are so many I adore after it that it paled in comparison.

From Page to Film: Stardust

When we hear of a favorite book being turned into a movie, we are very much anticipating at how it will turn out. In a way, there are things that we are looking for when this happens. Will it be satisfying for our taste? Will it be just as good, suspenseful and clever as it was on page? If we loved the book, our expectations for the movie are much higher and more searching. And most of the time there are things that we can’t help complaining about after like, “That was not in the book”, and “Why is this scene not included? That was supposed to be the best part!” But the reason movies are not entirely the same with the book is that those who made them wants viewers to experience a different kind of suspense we need that was for instance, not in the book. It is because we already know everything in the story that we may as well find it boring since it was just that, a word by word transformation of a book to real life.

                 

There are many movies out there from books that I’ve seen and loved just as much. One of my favorites is Stardust based on the book with the same name written by Neil Gaiman.
